Preparation Phase
Sacred bath at Kushavarta Kund for body and spirit purification—essential before ancestral rites. Devotees wear fresh traditional attire (men in white dhoti, women in saree, avoiding black). Sankalpa taken mentioning complete family details, gotra, and ancestors’ names.
Main Ritual Phases
1. Kalash Sthapana & Panchang Sthapana
Sacred pot establishment with Godavari water, representing cosmic energies and divine presence.
2. Gauri Ganesh Puja
Invoking Lord Ganesha and Goddess Gauri for obstacle removal and auspiciousness.
3. Shodasha Matrika & Navagraha Puja
Worshipping sixteen divine mothers and nine planets, ensuring comprehensive spiritual support and planetary balance.
4. Sankalpa & Deity Invocation
Formal declaration of ritual purpose with ancestors’ names, family lineage details. Invocation of Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesha (Shiva) as presiding deities.
5. Pind Daan (Three Generations)
Three sets of rice ball offerings representing:
- Father’s lineage (paternal ancestors)
- Mother’s lineage (maternal ancestors)
- Spouse’s lineage (in-laws/wife’s side)
Each pind offered with specific mantras addressing that generation’s souls, providing them spiritual nourishment.
6. Tarpan (Water Offerings)
Sacred water mixed with sesame seeds offered while chanting ancestors’ names, providing satisfaction to departed souls.
7. Brahmin Bhojan (Feeding)
Feeding Brahmins represents feeding ancestors, as Brahmins are considered divine representatives in this ritual.
8. Dakshina & Gau Daan
Donations given in ancestors’ names—cows, food, clothes, money—earning spiritual merit that transfers to departed souls.
9. Visarjan
Final immersion in Godavari River, completing ritual cycle and sending offerings to ancestral realm.
